There’s no denying that the world of travel has changed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. At Hilton Grand Vacations, we understand you may feel a bit nervous about traveling, and the risk of COVID-19 may weigh heavily on your minds. As airlines prepare to welcome you back on board, and HGV properties continue to re-open, we found out what you can expect during your next travel experience.
ClubPoints: An Introduction
Reservation Options and Best Practices
The process of departing to arriving at your destination has changed significantly, with new safety measures in place at airports around the world.
Across airport terminals in countries such as the United States, Japan, Scotland and Italy, new signage will help to maintain social distancing, although keeping travelers six feet apart may not always be possible at gates.
No matter where you are in the world, practicing good hygiene, including washing your hands before and after completing the security screening process, is key.
Rather than placing personal items, such as belts and wallets, on the conveyor belt, it’s advisable to remove and place them in your carry-on luggage before you enter the checkpoint queue. You can also minimize contact at the airport by using the airline’s app to download your boarding passes onto your mobile device.

Those traveling to Italy can expect stricter security than usual, with the country banning entry to arrivals from countries deemed to be high-risk. Be sure to check out the latest country travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State before you fly.
Across Italy masks are mandatory when indoors, including the airport. If you are transferring to a different method of transportation, take note that on long-distance coaches, ferries and trains masks are mandatory, and it’s advised to keep a safe distance from those not in your travel group. The number of passengers on public transportation may also be limited, something you may wish to keep in mind when arranging any travel connections.
Across Italy you can go to restaurants, bars, pubs, pastry-shops and ice-cream parlors as long as you are wearing a mask inside. Your body temperature may be checked as you enter, and you will be expected to sanitize your hands. Food and drinks can be ordered at the counter, however, you are asked to keep a distance from people who are not in your group. At restaurants, advance bookings are recommended. For the latest information visit the official Italian Tourist Board website.

How to Travel Safely After COVID-19
What to Expect at Airports Around the World
Travel at U.S. Airports
The security screening process in airports has changed throughout the United States. According to the Transportation
Security Administration (TSA), people traveling within the United States should expect to encounter increased distances between passengers as they enter the security checkpoint queue, and will be asked to follow visual reminders of appropriate spacing on checkpoint floors.
Travelers should also arrive at the airport well ahead of their flight departure schedule, as security lines might take longer than usual. This is because the TSA is consolidating its screening operations to adjust for reduced flight and passenger volumes. As a result, some security checkpoints may be closed, which can result in longer wait times.
Traveling to Italy
Traveling to Japan
Foreign nationals entering the country can expect a 14-day quarantine after arrival in Japan. For the latest updates on this development, see this official Japanese advisory or follow @JapanSafeTravel on Twitter, the official twitter account of the Japanese National Tourist Office. In addition, certain tourist attractions may be temporarily closed; for the latest information visit this page.
Traveling to Scotland
Scotland’s borders are slowly opening up. However, all new arrivals will need to provide their journey and contact details upon landing at the airport. You may be required to quarantine — that is, not leave the place you are staying for the first 14 days you are in Scotland. These regulations change every 21 days, so for the latest advice visit this website.

Enhanced safety measures have been implemented across HGV properties to ensure Club Members experience a safe,
comfortable environment
What to Expect When Arriving at an HGV Property
At HGV, we know you trust us to deliver a safe vacation environment. That’s why we have modified our check-in procedures to reduce the risks to our Club Members, guests and Team Members, and have stepped up our cleaning and disinfection procedures across all properties.
Hilton has also implemented a brand standard requiring everyone inside a Hilton hotel in the U.S. to wear face coverings in all indoor public spaces. Any local government mandate relating to face masks that is already in place at a location supersedes Hilton’s face mask requirement.
In addition, HGV now requires all guests staying at our properties to wear a face covering in all indoor public spaces to help prevent the spread of germs and viruses. So be sure to bring a face covering and wear it upon arrival. If you need an extra one, don't worry — complimentary face coverings are available upon request.
At the time of publishing this article, 38 HGV properties have re-opened around the United States, and we’ll be re-opening more in the next few months. As always, our Travel Updates webpage will provide you with the latest resort news. As part of our re-opening process, we’ve put extra sanitization measures through our Enhanced Care Guidelines, which incorporate Hilton CleanStay .
Enhanced Care With Your Health in Mind
Our Enhanced Care Guidelines include placing hand sanitizers in easy-to-access locations and practicing social distancing with low-touch experiences throughout each property. We also implemented social distancing safety efforts with clear signage, and HGV Team Members will be wearing protective equipment, including gloves and face coverings, while continuing to deliver unmatched HGV hospitality.
At properties such as Hilton Grand Vacations at The Flamingo and Ocean 22 by Hilton Grand Vacations Club, safeguards are visible from the moment you arrive.
“Guests will be greeted by our Team Members all wearing face coverings, and we have implemented a touchless arrival and departure process to reduce contact,” says Lisa A., general manager at Hilton Grand Vacations at The Flamingo.
“All collateral has been transformed to digital platforms, and complimentary face coverings, gloves and hand sanitizer are available to all visitors. Our Owners and guests are pleasantly surprised by the care and alleviated safeguards put in place by our resorts,” she adds.
Social distancing is also in place across properties. “Areas like our spa, Market Place and fitness center have capacity limits to ensure social distancing can be maintained,” says Tiffany D., general manager at Ocean 22 by Hilton Grand Vacations Club. Changes have also been implemented when preparing a room for occupancy. “Each room has been deep-cleaned, inspected, sanitized and then sealed by our housekeeping supervisor.”

What to Expect From Your Travel Experience
There’s no doubt that vacations, both in the U.S. and abroad, are going to feel different. COVID-19 preventive measures have extended to eating out, including restaurants and bars. While many states are lifting dine-in service restrictions, most restaurants can only fill 50% of the maximum occupancy. This means tables must remain six feet from each other. A number of new hygiene measures are being implemented across restaurants, from plexiglass screens to the use of protective equipment by servers and cooks. However, social distancing and the mandatory use of face coverings will be standard across many locations.
This doesn’t mean you should expect a sterile dining experience. Rather, some restaurants are setting up tables outside, bringing a more convivial ambiance to your vacation.
In Las Vegas, precautions are in place for visitors to casinos, which are naturally enclosed spaces. This article reports that at some casinos, visitors are welcomed with hand sanitizer and face masks. There are also hand-washing stations and phone check-ins, while gambling floors, dice and cards are disinfected between players. Patrons are encouraged to check each casino’s safety and hygiene protocols to ensure they feel safe and secure while visiting.
New York Times
In Orlando, popular venues such as Universal Studios Florida, Legoland and Walt Disney World have opened with reduced capacity limits to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. New safety measures are in place, such as at Universal Orlando, with social distancing, hand sanitizer stations and temperature checks. Certain rides are leaving spaces between rows closed to keep patrons socially distanced, and visitors are encouraged to use their smartphones to join virtual lines to reserve rides.
